As I wrote before on other prof. blogs, why does a General Contractor have to be licensed to perform this task. As a remodeling contr. I do not get licensed in elec., plumb, HVAC, etc. Lead Abatement is a specialty trade. I hire specialty trades for those taskes The EPA keeps insisting it is lead removal, not abatement. Well all the commercial abatement jobs I supervised go thru the same procedures as EPA lead removal. If this is such a problem all pre 1978 houses should be listed as a Super Site and home owners can get Gov. grants to get rid of this problem. Even if they do not hire a Prof. Contr., their DIY projects and just living in the house poses the same health risks the EPA are warning about for children etc. It is just another way for EPA to make extra income by making every trade responsible instead of specialty trades. A lot less revenue.
